PRE-ORDERS FAQ

Why would I want to pre-order a book?

Imagine Little Ludmilla has her heart set on the new Zombie Princesses in Space graphic novel. Or Bookworm & Ice Cream Addicted Partner is dying for the latest installment in the Ben & Jerry Murders mystery series. You go to get a copy the week after the books come out and...Oh no! All the stores are sold out!

Now imagine the same scenario, only this time you made sure to pre-order the books months before. The books come in. They are placed on the hold shelf with your name on them. You pick them up and hand them with great panache to your loved ones. Voila! You're a hero!

Does it cost more to pre-order?

We've checked every dictionary we can find and not one of them equates the prefix "pre-" with "charge tons more money." So, no, it doesn't cost any more. In fact, we discount select pre-order titles every month, so you might even save money.

Do I have to pre-pay?

If you select "Pay In Store" at checkout, you won't be charged until you come to pick up your order. If you pay online, your card or Paypal account will be charged when the order is placed.

Why do you charge my card right away if the book isn't coming out for 3 months?

The number of books we order from the publishers depends on how many pre-orders we get. Knowing that 100 people have committed to buying a title makes it much easier for us to order in larger quantities and provide discounts and promotions on some of the titles.

More importantly, most credit card and Paypal authorizations have a time limit. If we wait 90 days (or even 30 days with some methods of payment), the likelihood is that the charge will be declined when we try to process it. We'll then have to call you and get your payment information over the phone, which is not only a nuisance for you but could also mean the difference between getting your book the day it comes out or getting it a week later. We're guessing you'd rather get your order as soon as possible.

Can I cancel my pre-order?

Absolutely. Whether you've pre-paid online or opted to pay in-store, you can cancel your order at any time. If you pre-paid, we'll refund the amount promptly.

Can I cancel someone else's pre-order?

What? No! Why would you ask that? Well, okay, if it's your elderly grandmother and she asked you to do it.

Which books can I pre-order?

Any books that have the words "Coming Soon - Pre-Order Now" under the "Add to Cart" button can be pre-ordered. If the button isn't there, it may be too far in advance or there may be a problem. Please contact us and we'll see what we can do.

You may also see books with the "Pre-Order" banner across the cover. These usually indicate special deals, which you can find on our Pre-Order Deals page.

Unfortunately, we're still not able to offer pre-orders on books that haven't been written yet.

I want the book shipped. Will it get there on the day of publication?

We would love to be able to guarantee that. But the publishers don't always get the books to us on time, and the postal service, UPS, FedEx can all be delayed due to weather, traffic, holidays, chicken pox, even an alien invasion. So we can't guarantee the book will arrive on the exact date of publication. We do promise to make every effort to get it to you as close to the publication date as possible.
