VIRTUAL: Monthly Bedtime Storytime

Put on your jammies, and join authors Phaea Crede (Jet the Cat (Is Not a Cat)), Margaret Muirhead (Flip! How the Frisbee Took Flight), and Katie and Roxy Leeson (Brave Maeve: A Story to Help Young Children and Grown-Ups Navigate Covid-19) for our monthly bedtime storytime! Click here to register for this Zoom webinar.

About Jet the Cat (Is Not a Cat):

Jet the cat loves to swim, but when other animals try to persuade her that she’s not really a cat, she sets out to discover what kind of creature she is. She tries out life as a frog, a bird, and even a goat before learning to celebrate what makes her unique. Signed copies of Jet the Cat are available.  Please put a note in the Comments section of your order if you would like one.

Phaea Crede loves writing silly picture books for silly kids. Serious kids, too!

After graduating from Sarah Lawrence College in the 2000s, Phaea pursued a career in comedy before discovering her true passion for writing picture books. Some of her favorite things to write about are cats, vegetables, big feelings, and pizza. Phaea is represented by Moe Fererra of BookEnds Literary. Her debut picture book Jet the Cat (Is Not a Cat) will be published Spring 2021 by Barefoot Books.

As a writer with dyslexia, Phaea is proud to demonstrate that disabilities don’t have to stand in the way of dreams. She hopes to connect with kids and adults who think they can’t write—and convince them that they can!

Phaea lives outside of Boston with her husband, two kiddos, two cats, 1,000 wild birds, and a slightly stinky dog named Gus.

About Flip! How the Frisbee Took Flight:

The origin story of the Frisbee soars with unexpected twists and turns.

Fred Morrison is credited as the inventor of the Frisbee, but for centuries folks have been flipping for flying discs. Ancient Greeks flicked discs, and beginning in the 1920s, college kids at Yale University were tossing pie tins. Fred lived in California and had no idea about ancient Greeks or East Coast college kids. His invention quest began in 1932 after tossing a tin popcorn lid around the backyard. For more than twenty years, Fred and his wife, Lu, tried and failed to perfect a flying-disc concept. Eventually they created what we know today as the Frisbee. Their story is full of good old-fashioned perseverance, success, and fun!

Margaret Muirhead is the author of Mabel, One and Only. Her essays and poetry have appeared in a number of publications, including Boston Globe MagazineFamily Fun MagazineThis Picture Book Life, and many others.

About Brave Maeve: A Story to Help Young Children and Grown-Ups Navigate Covid-19:

Four year-old Maeve explains what life was like before COVID-19 and then describes how everything has changed. Written by a grandmother and mother duo, this book uses examples from Maeve's day-to-day life with her mom and favorite stuffed animal. The story encourages young children and grown-ups to talk about how COVID-19 has impacted them and their feelings, and reminds children about all the people working to keep them safe and happy.

Proceeds from sales of "Brave Maeve" will be donated to Belmont Helps, a townwide volunteer group
established last March to meet the needs of Belmont residents in the wake of COVID-19.

Roxy Leeson has been an early childhood educator for over forty years – teaching,  directing and consulting to preschools across Massachusetts. A graduate of Wheelock  College, she directed a preschool for 25 years and also volunteered with Boston Medical  Center’s program “Good Grief,” helping children to process grief and loss in healthy, age appropriate ways.  She is the mother of two grown daughters and grandmother of three.

Katie Leeson, one of her daughters, is a health care professional and the mother of four  year-old Maeve. Katie is living the pandemic “work from home” life with a vibrant  preschooler singing, twirling and collecting bugs underfoot.
